Plant phenology is the study of the timing of recurring biological phases in plants—such as budding, leafing, flowering, fruit ripening, and leaf drop—in response to environmental cues like temperature and day length. Often called “nature’s calendar,” it acts as a sensitive indicator of climate change and seasonal shifts, influencing ecosystems and agriculture.

Think Trees of New Mexico will host a free session at the BioPark on Thursday, Feb 12th from 9-12. Entrance to the Biopark for all class attendees is also free.

Register here: https://thinktrees26.ezregister.com.

Speaker Dr. Theresa Crimmins is an associate professor at the University of Arizona and a published author. Her beautiful book Phenology was published last year and she’ll have books to sell & sign this event.

Dr. Crimmins has added her recent analyses of phenological data collected by volunteers at our ABQ BIOPARK for the past 10+ years! AND there will be a tour after the presentations. Attendees are welcome to stay after noon.

This week’s class is a HANDS ON EVENT - REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED!

Learn how to easily grow plants from cuttings with Master Gardener Mary Voldahl!

Master Gardeners are providing plant cuttings, rooting hormone, and one 6 pack ellepot. Ellepots have a special medium for cuttings, wrapped in a paper liner. After your cuttings grow roots, you can pop them out to “up pot” with less transplant shock.

PARTICIPANTS MUST BRING:

✏️ dibber (sharp pencil, chopstick, something to make a hole for your cuttings

✂️ Sharp scissors or small pruner to work with your cuttings

🫙Plastic container or large ziplock type bag to put your completed ellepot in.
This will keep your cuttings moist while they are rooting.

Depending on participation, we may have extra cuttings. If you would like to do more than the 6 cuttings, please bring a small 4 or 6 pack prefilled with seedling/cutting mix. We will not be providing soil other than the ellepots. Cuttings & ellepots are available only for class participants, this is not a take and go experience, due to the limited amount.

Classes are free to the public!

Pre-registration is REQUIRED for everyone.
This class will fill up quickly and seats are limited.
