We know changes to recycling service can raise questions, which is why we took a close look at the data before making our proposal to move to a biweekly recycling collection schedule. After reviewing emissions reports, recycling cart set-out rates, fuel usage, and long-term wear-and-tear on trucks, carts, and neighborhood streets, we found that moving to every-other-week recycling collection is the most sustainable path forward for our community.

The reality is that many recycling carts are not being set out weekly, meaning trucks are often driving routes that don’t reflect actual usage patterns. By transitioning to biweekly recycling service, we can reduce emissions, lower unnecessary fuel consumption, lessen wear on residential roads and equipment, and continue providing reliable recycling service citywide.

This change would help us modernize service while staying committed to Albuquerque’s recycling goals and environmental future. ♻️🌎
