Saturday is looking busy! 🐾🌳

We’ve got a couple things happening with Parks & Recreation tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 12.

🐶 Bring your pup to the Doggy Paddle at Rio Grande Pool for some splash time from 10 a.m.–noon or noon–2 p.m. Online registration for the first session is sold out, but limited in-person registration will be available first-come, first-served. Cash only $5 per dog.

🌳 Tree New Mexico and volunteers will also be planting trees in Hoffmantown as part of NeighborWoods. Volunteer registration is closed, but we can’t wait to see the trees go in the ground!

Improvements are coming to Bennie Hargrove Park!

The park is currently closed for construction while crews make several improvements including a new basketball court, playground, pathways, benches, and a pollinator garden. 🌼🏀🛝

Construction is expected to continue through November. The dog park will remain open during construction.

A beach day… in the desert?! 🌵⛱️

Vista Beach is officially open at Vista del Norte Park! This new nature-based play space brings a little beach experience to Albuquerque with a shaded wet-sand area where kids can dig, build sandcastles, make creations, and let their imaginations run wild. ☀️

The sand is watered periodically to create the perfect conditions for building and sensory play so bring those buckets and shovels!

While the kids play, parents can relax in the seating areas and upper-level overlook, with plenty of spots to gather and keep an eye on the little ones.

Surrounded by native plants, rocks, logs, stepping stones, and pathways, Vista Beach gives kids a chance to explore nature in a whole new way. 🌿

So… who’s ready to build a sandcastle? 🏖️

🎾 Game, set, celebrate! 🎾

Last night we celebrated 10 freshly resurfaced tennis courts, a little friendly competition with a 1-Point Tournament, and a special moment honoring a local tennis legend.

Court 2 is now officially named for Joe Felice, who has spent more than five decades teaching, competing and growing the sport right here in New Mexico. The dedication is part of Mayor Tim Keller’s Stories of Us initiative celebrating the people who help make our community what it is!
