The County Assessor's Office determines the property value of homes, businesses, and other taxable property in Bernalillo County. The office also prepares the tax roll for the county treasurer on real property (land and improvements), personal property (business equipment), livestock, and mobile homes. The priority of the Assessor’s Office is to maintain trust, integrity and transparency to the public. The Assessor’s Office has dedicated itself to updating its technology and policies as well as providing hands-on assistance to taxpayers.

📢 Assessor Damian Lara Updates County Commission

Assessor Damian Lara updated the Bernalillo County Commission on proposed changes that could shift responsibility for calculating mill rates from the NM Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) to county assessors.

Lara also discussed the Assessor’s Office transition to a new administration and highlighted accomplishments from his four years in office.

The Commission accepted the 2026 tax year mill rates submitted by DFA, which will be reflected on tax statements mailed in November.

Today, the Bernalillo County Assessor’s Office was proud to participate in the East Mountains Veterans Services Fair, working alongside community partners to help connect our veterans with the property tax benefits and exemptions they’ve earned through their service.

We’re grateful for every opportunity to meet veterans where they are, answer questions, and help make the process of accessing available benefits a little easier.
