Illegal Dumping Partnership

Illegal Dumping Partnership We're a multi-agency task force that helps combat illegal dumping throughout Bernalillo County.

April is Recycle Month AND April 22nd is Earth Day.
Less than 14% of the 86 Million Tons of plastics produced annually are actually recycled. Therefore, we are leaving 73.97 Million Tons of plastic to pollute our environment and overflow our landfills each year. We Can Do Better!

~Avoid single-use plastic items and utilize glass or paper instead. Glass products are easily reused, and paper is a much friendlier product to the environment.

Did you know? November is world recycling month, and today is ! โ™ป๏ธ

Fun Fact: National Recycling Day was originally started back in 1997 by the National Recycling Coalition. This day is declared each year in the United States by Presidential Proclamation, which encourages Americans to recycle and is nationally-recognized. In 2009, National Recycling Day was hosted by the Keep America Beautiful initiative.

We encourage everyone to reduce their environmental footprint by recycling as much as possible.

Find local resources for various recycling sites by visiting our website at ihavetrash.com.

From our partners at the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority - it's easy to overlook the everyday household items that can potentially contaminate our water supply if not disposed of properly: paint and varnishes, cleaners and disinfectants, oil, batteries, electronics, pesticides. We know that the Albuquerque community wants to help keep our waterways and aquifer clean, but it can be hard to know the right thing to do with our waste. So, remember these best practices:

-Dispose of ALL waste responsibly, being particularly careful with household chemicals and cleaning products. The Illegal Dumping Partnership provides a lot of useful information about household hazardous waste, and how to dispose of it (www.ihavetrash.com).

-Never pour hazardous substances down the drain, on the ground, or into storm drains.

-Try using non-hazardous alternatives to chemical products, or reduce the amount you use.

-Keep potentially hazardous automotive waste out of sewers and storm drains by using commercial car washes and changing your oil at the mechanicโ€™s, not the driveway. Used oil can be safely disposed of at auto parts stores or mechanic shops.

Protect our water! The Rio Grande and Bosque are beloved and iconic features of our community. They need our protection to keep them free of contaminants. Donโ€™t forget that no matter where you are in the city, if your waste ends up in a storm drain, it will end up in the river.
How can you help protect our water sources? The Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority says: scoop pet waste and pick up trash, both near the river and across the city. Dispose of household hazardous waste and medications properly. You can also volunteer for bosque restoration projects on the Cityโ€™s website: https://cabq.galaxydigital.com/.

From our partners at the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority: Most people donโ€™t know there is a right and a wrong way to dispose of medications, or the harm they can cause when flushed or thrown in the trash. The truth is that medicines (doctor prescribed and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, herbal supplements, and pet medications) can end up in our water supply when they arenโ€™t disposed of properly, and this can threaten our water quality.
How can you help protect our water sources? Properly dispose of your medications by taking them to one of six disposal locations around the city.

Do you have a ton of waste that you're looking to get rid of?

Look into getting a Bagster from WM! These are perfect for medium sized home improvement tasks such as remodels, yard cleaning, etc. You fill it up, and Waste Management comes and picks it up! It can be a cost effective way to dispose of waste from these home projects, and is much less expensive than renting a large roll off.

Visit www.thebagster.com and enter your zip code to see if Bagster service is available in your neighborhood.
