May is APINH Heritage Month — a time to honor the Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Native Hawaiian communities whose histories, cultures, languages, doorways, faith traditions, artistry, and lived experiences continue to shape Albuquerque.

As the Office of APINH Affairs, we recognize that APINH is not one story, one culture, or one identity. It is broad and vibrant diaspora with roots across Asia, the Pacific Islands, and Native Hawaiian homelands. Here in Albuquerque, APINH communities continue to contribute to the spirit, economy, creativity, and future of our city.

This month, we celebrate visibility. We celebrate belonging. We celebrate the elders, families, small business owners, artists, students, faith leaders, workers, and community builders who make Albuquerque a richer and more connected place.

While APINH Heritage Month is recognized in May, our commitment to honoring, uplifting, and investing in APINH communities continues year-round.

Join us Saturday, May 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Civic Plaza as we stand with families and communities impacted by the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives crisis.

We’re honoring the families still searching, the organizers who made the calls, and the advocates who keep showing up.

Through music, movement, art, and solidarity, we raise awareness, honor loved ones, and support the work that continues everyday.

Wear red. Bring signs. Bring photos honoring your loved ones. Raise your voice with us.

We believe in this city, and we believe in showing up for one another.

Signed. Sealed. Delivered. In front of a crowded conference room, Mayor Tim Keller on Tuesday signs the Safety and Privacy in Community Spaces Ordinance bill the City Council passed in March proclaiming that no City department, agency, or employee shall use City resources to assist in federal civil immigration enforcement, including raids, detentions, or information-sharing, unless legally required. Councilors Nichole Rogers, Joaquin Baca and Stephanie Telles joined the Mayor for the signing, as well as several audience members supporting El Centro de Igualdad y Derechos.

The Office of Equity and Inclusion extends warm wishes to Albuquerque's Jewish community and all those observing Passover.

For thousands of years, Jewish communities have gathered to retell the story of the Exodus--a story rooted in freedom, resilience, remembrance, and hope.

As one of the world's oldest continuously practiced traditions, Passover reminds us of the enduring importance of dignity, belonging, and community across generations.
