Load ratings on life-safety gear can be confusing. NFPA 1983 tells us the Minimum Breaking Strength (MBS) of ropes, which is a static number. But what happens in a real rescue? Falls and mechanical advantage systems create dynamic loads that can be far higher than the MBS. It’s vital for rescue technicians to understand the difference between static strength and the forces they'll encounter. This knowledge helps make sure rigging is safe and equipment is chosen correctly for the job.

In this no-nonsense breakdown, Robin van Bruggen exposes the "8 Silent Killers" plaguing the SAR community. We aren't talking about hypothermia or dehydration; we are talking about Ego, Gatekeeping, and Systemic Negligence.

From the refusal to use available resources ("Gatekeeping") to the dangerous failure to apply Lost Person Behavior science, these are the human errors that cost lives. This video is a wake-up call for Incident Commanders, Agency Directors, and every responder who claims "it's all about the missing person" but fails to act like it.
