NEW ONLINE BURN PERMIT APPLICATION
The Albion Fire Department is making it easier and more convenient to apply for a burn permit!
Residents in the Albion fire district can now submit their burn permit application through our new online application site. This allows you to request a permit from your phone or computer.

Before you burn, submit your application through our new online system and make sure your permit has been approved.

Important: Submitting an application does not automatically mean you are approved to burn. Please wait until you receive approval before beginning any burn. When your application is approved, you will get a text message and/or email (depending on which boxes you check) stating the permit is approved along with a copy of the permit.

Use the website link here https://app.arkfirerms.com/burn-permit.html?dept=albion_vfd or in the Link section at the top of this page to begin your permit application, you can also save the link for future use. If you need assistance in filling out the application, please contact Bruce Benne 402-741-1582 or Jason Borer 402-608-0211. Burn permits are valid for 1 day at a time from sunrise to sunset, weather permitting.

Thank you for helping us keep our community safe!

πŸš—πŸ“š SCHOOL PERMIT DRIVERS β€” KNOW THE RULES! πŸ“šπŸš—

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind students and parents about the restrictions that come with a Nebraska School Permit.

A School Permit is issued for a specific purpose β€” getting to and from school and school-related activities. It is NOT a permit to drive around town or run personal errands.

βœ… WHAT YOU MAY DO:

A School Permit holder may drive:

🏫 To and from school
πŸ€ To and from school activities, events, and functions
πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§ To transport immediate family members to school or school-related activities

➑️ You must use the most direct and accessible route between your home and school/activity, using the nearest highway.

❌ WHAT YOU MAY NOT DO:

🚫 Drive around town just because you have a permit
🚫 Take a β€œshortcut” or detour for personal reasons
🚫 Stop at a friend's house or another secondary location
🚫 Use the vehicle for personal errands or activities unrelated to school
🚫 Pick up or give rides to friends, classmates, or other non-family members

For example:
If you are driving home from school, your School Permit does not allow you to drive to a friend's house, drive around town, stop at a business for personal reasons, and then continue home. Your trip should be school β†’ home using the most direct and accessible route.

The same applies when traveling from home to school.

πŸ“– Nebraska law specifically limits School Permit driving to travel to and from school, including school events and functions, along the most direct and accessible route, and allows transportation of the permit holder or a family member to school-related activities.

This is about keeping our young drivers, passengers, and everyone else on our roads safe. We encourage parents and students to know the restrictions before getting behind the wheel.

⚠️ Having a School Permit does not mean you have unrestricted driving privileges.

Please take a few minutes to review the rules with your student.

Drive smart. Follow the rules. Get there safely.

Reference: Nebraska Revised Statute Β§ 60-4,124 and Nebraska DMV School Permit requirements. This post is intended as a reminder and general summary; Nebraska law controls.
