We are honored to have been “flies on the wall” today as we learned the law enforcement side of an active assailant event. There are no borders or boundaries to needing or providing assistance. Thank you all for allowing us to watch and even participate.

Fourth of July Public Service Announcement!!

We all know that pyrotechnicians with only eight (8) fingers are the best ones. So, please leave the big stuff to the professionals.

The following context is taken from the Carmel Fire Department. Because it is too FUNNY not to share.

Inexperienced pyros, distracted adults, kids, and poor Terry, who is still trying to back that thing up are just a few reasons I highly recommend leaving fireworks to the professionals… but if you’re planning to launch some black cats, roman candles, screaming mimis, lady fingers, fuzz buttles, snicker bombs, church burners, finger blasters, gut busters, zippity-do-das, crap flappers, whistlin’ bungholes, spleen splitters, whisker biscuits, h***y lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker don’ts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers (with or without the scooter stick), or whistlin’ kitty chasers at home… PLEASE follow the rules.”

A few quick reminders:
🎆 Keep water nearby
🎆 Never relight a dud
🎆 Keep spectators back
🎆 Use fireworks outdoors only
🎆 Leave the launch area clear of dry grass and debris

In all seriousness, though, respect that it has been HOT and dry for the last week, so make sure you know where your fireworks are landing and that they don't ignite something you don't want to burn.

Enjoy this 250th Birthday of Our Great Nation Safely!

Today, we worked with the American Red Cross to help install this
"Bed Shaker" system for a Deaf resident. This system works off a regular smoke detector, and when it is activated, the Lifetone system alerts the sleeping person by shaking their bed and then produces a flashing light and loud commands (this is for the "hard of hearing and not deaf). The Lifetone system looks like a regular alarm clock, so it has an aesthetically pleasing look.
All of this was free to the resident, thanks to the American Red Cross, and was installed by our members under the supervision of the Red Cross Volunteer. This is our first time with this system, but it's really cool and easy!

I, the Fire Chief, have placed a friendly wager with Chief Stewart Bender of the Topeka Fire Department on the outcome of tonight's softball sectional championship game.

Our own CN Lady Cougars are up against his Westview Warriors.

The Chief on the losing end will have to wear one of the other department's T-shirts for a day. I'll admit, he will look good in Maroon!

**Side note**

My daughter coached at CN, and his daughter was a great player for Westview and went on to play collegiately at Findley Univ. So, we've battled many times before.
