Under Old Business was the Elm Street Asphalt Project between 4th and 5th Street - acceptance of bids. There were no bids opened tonight. The BID OPENING will happen now at 11 AM on 9/11/2026 and is open to the public. They plan to vote on bids at the October meeting.

Tuesday, September 8 • 7:00 p.m. • Albion City Council Meeting at City Hall.

At Tuesday night’s Albion City Council meeting, acceptance of bids for asphalt for the Elm Street Project is listed under Old Business.

For those of us who care about Albion’s history and the preservation of its historic brick streets, this is an important moment.

If you believe Elm Street’s historic brick deserves to be preserved, please come to the meeting and make your voice heard. Visitors may share their thoughts during the Visitors on Business portion of the meeting.

This is about more than one street.

It is about what we choose to preserve for the generations who come after us.

Once historic brick is removed and covered, it cannot simply be recreated. What happens with Elm Street could also influence how our community approaches the preservation of the remaining historic brick streets in Albion.

We have continued to advocate for the preservation of Elm Street because we believe our historic streets are part of the story, character and identity of our community.

Please don’t assume someone else will speak up.

If preserving Albion’s historic brick streets matters to you, show up. Speak up. Be heard.

Members of the Citizens Brick Street Committee will be presenting information and asking the City Council to pause the proposed Elm Street Project so that additional options for preserving the historic brick street between 4th and 5th Street can be explored.

Whether you support preservation, have questions, or simply want to stay informed about a project that could shape the future of our historic downtown, your attendance matters.

A strong community presence shows that residents care about the decisions being made for Albion's future.
