As we continue our City Department Head Spotlight Series, we'd like to introduce a familiar face around Albertville - Mark Thompson, Building Inspector for the City of Albertville.

Having 50+ years of experience in home building, Mark brought his knowledge to the City's Building Department over a decade ago, following the retirement of his late father, who previously served in the same role.

The Building Department oversees residential and commercial permits, licensing, and inspections, helping ensure projects throughout Albertville meet applicable building and safety standards. Mark works regularly alongside the City Clerk's Office, Code Enforcement, the Albertville Fire Department, and MUB, among others, to help projects move forward efficiently and responsibly.

Whether it's a new home, home/property maintenance, a local business expansion, or a major commercial development, Mark and his team are one of the first required calls, and while growth and development often come with challenges, Mark's decades of experience and practical approach help make him a valuable resource for those investing in Albertville.

Outside of City Hall, Mark is also our resident rock star! You may have seen him performing around town with his band Hard on the Chickens, and he's also an adopted member of the band Warm. His son, Eli Stanislaus, recently joined the Albertville Fire Department, continuing a tradition of service to our community. Thanks, Mark!

Great job, Albertville-AL Police Department and Brindley's Family Pharmacy! 💊🚫👏

Today, we partnered with the Albertville Police Department for a Drug Take Back event and were blown away by the community response — together, we collected an incredible 158 pounds of unused and expired medication. 💊👏

Every bottle turned in represents one less opportunity for accidental poisoning, medication misuse, or environmental contamination. What may seem like a small cleanup at home makes a huge impact for our community as a whole.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, cleaned out their medicine cabinets, and helped make today a success. We’re grateful to serve a community that continues to show up, support one another, and prioritize safety. 💙

This morning, we officially celebrated the WinSouth Water Park with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by Albertville Chamber ahead of the water park’s 2026 season opening tomorrow, May 23! 🏊‍♂️

This has already proven to be a natural partnership, and we’re grateful for WinSouth's significant investment in our city and the communities we serve through Sand Mountain Park and Amphitheater.

A great summer ahead. Let's go! 💦
