What a week in Chattanooga!!! Officers Angel and Smith, along with Titus and Knox, certified in both PD1 and narcotics detection. Officer Angel and Titus placed 3rd in box search. Sergeant Taylor is extremely close to completing his training to become a region judge. He is required to judge 45 teams in each PD1 event and 35 teams in both narcotics detection events, receiving input from many region and national judges.

Our friends Deputies Ridgway and Isbell, along with Puma and Dano, also received their certifications.

Day 3: Teams will be tested on narcotics detection on vehicles and in rooms. Testing odors are he**in, methamphetamine, cocaine/crack, and ma*****na (for teams that are still trained to detect it). USPCA is also aligning with best practices and the changing landscape to offer an unscored fentanyl familiarization.

As of this morning, all teams that participated, including teams from Albertville K-9 Unit and Marshall County Sheriff's Office, performed to and exceeding the standard set by our association to return home to work the streets for another year.

Day 2: criminal apprehension. This is the fun stuff. Our teams will be tested on false start (decoy runs, dog doesn't move), recall (decoy runs, dog goes to apprehend the decoy, and is called back before contacting the decoy), and apprehension ( decoy runs, dog apprehends decoy, dog is called off, and the handler performs a pat down) . The second portion is an apprehension with gunfire (the decoy fires two .38 blanks, the dog and handler apprehend the decoy) and handler protection (the dog outs from the apprehension, the handler performs a pat down, the decoy pushes the handler, and the dog apprehends the decoy.)

On March 20th, Officer Smith and Knox were joined by Sergeant Taylor and Ellie at AKPK for Community Helper Day. It's one of our favorite days of the year explaining what we do as K9 Handlers and letting the stars of the show, the dogs, have some fun.

We are truly blessed to serve a great community.

Teachers, feel free to drop any pictures you have in the comments.

Thank you to a community that cares about its public servants. Without the support of our community, we couldn't provide the level of service required.

The officers of the Albertville Police Department assigned to the Marshall County Joint Special Response Team would like to express their sincere gratitude to seven local businessmen who generously funded the purchase of seven pieces of night vision equipment for use during nighttime operations.

This generous contribution is just one example of the strong support our department receives from the community. We are deeply appreciative of the continued commitment and generosity shown by our citizens.

The K9 Unit put on a doggone good show today at Albertville Primary School and Albertville Elementary School! We had a howlin' good time showing off our furry partners to the kids. Hope they had as much fun as we did (but let's be real, it's hard to top getting to see police dogs in action). Oh, and we also got to be the 'paw-fect' judges for their parade banners.
