NEWS RELEASE: VEHICLE PURSUIT
On June 21, 2026, at approximately 7:39 a.m., an Albert Lea Police Department (ALPD) officer took a stolen vehicle report of a 2013 Toyota Tacoma that had been taken some time over the previous evening.

On June 22, 2026, at approximately 7:33 p.m., ALPD officers were dispatched to the area of Front Street West and First Avenue South for a report of the stolen Toyota Tacoma being driven in the area. Officers arrived in the area and confirmed this was the reported stolen vehicle.

ALPD officers attempted to stop the stolen vehicle near First Avenue North and Fountain Street, but the driver fled. The vehicle was pursued for approximately 1.2 miles before the driver drove off the road near the intersection of Abbott Street and Winter Avenue. ON THE AGENDA: At its meeting Monday, the Albert Lea City Council will decide whether to create an economic development agency in addition to the existing Port Authority and Housing/Redevelopment Authority. The new agency would help fill any gaps in existing economic efforts. For example, it could focus on workforce housing and business retention.

Also on the agenda:
- Accepting the low bid of $2.1 million for building part of the Songbird Trail this year, using $1.17 million in grant money toward the project and the city sharing the remaining costs with Freeborn County.
- Continuing the program to replace lead water lines, using $1 million in state funding.

Albert Lea Fire Rescue responded to 730 Alcove St. at 12:17 a.m. today for the report of a house fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters found fire showing on the north side of the home, coming out of a kitchen window. Firefighters extinguished the fire and remained on scene to cool any hot spots.

No one was inside the structure at the time of the incident. The house, which was previously deemed a full loss after a fire on April 25, had been placarded for being uninhabitable.

Department investigators contacted and coordinated with the Minnesota Fire Marshal’s Office.

The cause of the fire was determined to be arson as the utilities had been turned off after the previous fire, and weather was not a contributing factor.

If anyone has any information leading to a person of interest, please contact the Minnesota Arson Hotline at 1-800-723-2020.

Albert Lea Police Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
