APD was proud to recently take part in the local Special Olympics Torch Run. Officers joined fellow law enforcement members and Special Olympic athletes for a run through the heart of our city.

City of Albemarle leadership lined the streets in front of City Hall, cheering on every runner and athlete as they carried the Flame of Hope. A huge shoutout to the amazing crowd from Stanly Atrium Health for their energy and encouragement along the route, and to the Stanly County Health Department team for keeping everyone hydrated at the turnaround point.

The run concluded back at APD Headquarters, where participants refueled, celebrated, and reflected on the power of unity, inclusion, and community spirit. Thank you to everyone who ran, cheered, and supported this amazing cause.

Officer Leyva and his amazing K-9 partner, Topi, recently brought smiles and excitement to the 1st–3rd graders at Christ the King Academy with a special K-9 demonstration!

Students were fascinated by Topi’s incredible skills, had lots of curious questions and learned how police K-9s help keep our community safe.

A huge thank you to Officer Leyva and Topi for making this a day our students will never forget!
