STATEWIDE AND LOCAL BURN BANS REMAIN STRICTLY IN EFFECT

Update for: Thursday, April 23, 2026

Both the Statewide Burn Ban (issued by the N.C. Forest Service) AND the Local Stanly County Burn Ban (issued by the Stanly County and City of Albemarle Fire Marshal’s Offices) REMAIN STRICTLY IN EFFECT today.

Due to critically high fire danger, absolutely NO open burning is permitted anywhere in Stanly County. Because both state and local bans are active, there are zero exceptions. This total prohibition includes campfires, bonfires, and agricultural burning.

Ignoring these overlapping mandates puts our community at extreme risk and depletes emergency resources. Violations will be strictly enforced, resulting in a fine of up to $250 for first offenses.

To report illegal burning, call 704-986-3700 or 911.

🚫🔥 STATEWIDE BURN BAN REMAINS IN EFFECT 🔥🚫

Stanly County remains under a statewide burn ban due to continued dry conditions and elevated fire danger.

đźš« All open burning is prohibited, including:
• Burning leaves or yard debris
• Campfires
• Bonfires
• Agricultural burning

Local fire marshals have also issued bans that prohibit burning within 100 feet of any occupied structure anywhere in Stanly County.

🌡️ With high temperatures, low humidity, and no significant rainfall in the forecast, conditions remain dangerous. Fires in wooded areas can burn hotter, spread quickly, and require extensive resources to control.

⚠️ Important Reminders:
• Violations may result in fines
• Grills and gas cooking devices are allowed (unless otherwise restricted)
• Report wildfires or suspicious fire activity by calling 911

⏳ There is no timeline for lifting the burn ban at this time. It will remain in place until we receive significant, widespread rainfall.

Please do your part to help prevent wildfires and protect our community. Stay safe!
