Freedom has never been free, and so many Black heroes paid the ultimate price for it.

This Memorial Day, we lift up the legacy of the Harlem Hellfighters, the Montford Point Marines, the Tuskegee Airmen, and every Black service member who stood on the front lines of war while fighting for dignity back home.

Their courage is our inheritance. Their memory is our responsibility.

"As Chair of the Elder Care Committee, I know firsthand that this expanded exemption is not just a policy update; it is a lifeline for seniors who have spent decades building our neighborhoods and deserve to remain in them. I’m proud to help alleviate property tax burdens for our seniors countywide."
Dr Carolyn McLauglin, Chair of the Albany County Elderly Committee

The Albany County Legislature has approved an increase to its senior citizens’ property tax exemption levels, making it easier for seniors with limited incomes to stay in their homes and remain a vital part of our communities and neighborhoods.
