Last week, I had the honor of meeting with Tia from Watervliet and Sherry from Bethlehem whose stories are a reminder of the lifesaving impact of cell therapy and donor advocacy.

Thank you to NMDP for their ongoing mission to help patients battling blood cancers and disorders receive the care they need, and a special shoutout to Minority Leader Ed Ra for his steadfast advocacy and leadership on this important issue.

Every donor registration has the potential to save a life. Hearing these personal stories reinforces why raising awareness and expanding access to bone marrow donation is so important.

I wanted to share a great story about a constituent who reached out to me 4 years ago on an issue that was important to her and she thought there should be a new law on the issue. There was a bill that a colleague of mine had already introduced on the matter and I joined as a cosponsor. Last week, the bill passed the Assembly and the Senate (and is pending a decision by the Executive). I was able to share the good news with her and she sent the thoughtful message below. I truly enjoy hearing from our constituents and it is wonderful that this constituent's son was the one who encouraged her to reach out.

I enjoyed sitting down for this story with my brother Jim.

Like so many families, our parents taught us the importance of hard work, treating people with respect and giving back to our community. I am especially grateful for my mom and dad, Barbara and John, whose example of compassion and generosity inspire our family every day.

Take a few minutes to read the story here:

This week, I was proud to join my colleagues in recognizing the incredible women veterans who have served our country during the Assembly’s Annual Women Veterans Recognition Day.

I was especially honored to celebrate two outstanding constituents from the 108th Assembly District, Pauline Daigneault, who served in the Air Force, and Sandra D. Moody, who served in the Army.

Their dedication, sacrifice, and service to our nation represent the very best of our community and our country. Thank you for your service.

Our cities, towns, and villages are the backbone of our communities and this year’s State Budget delivers a major increase in Temporary Municipal Aid for the 108th Assembly District.
The district will receive over $23.8 million in AIM funding in FY2027 a 20.7% increase from last year.

This critical funding helps local governments maintain services, invest in infrastructure, support public safety, and keep our communities strong.

I was proud to support a budget that delivers meaningful aid directly back to our local municipalities

ASSEMBLYMEMBER JOHN T. MCDONALD III, RPH STATEMENT ON THE 2026-27 NEW YORK STATE ENACTED BUDGET

“I often speak about how my priorities are supporting affordability, safety, and opportunity for our residents. This enacted state budget adheres to and firmly supports those principles for New Yorkers.

In these polarizing times, it can be easy to focus on the negative and the things that were not included, or the things included that we disagree with. It is important to remember that our state budget funds vital programs that impact and support our communities in profound ways. Our schools, local governments, police and fire departments, infrastructure, and social services programs all rely on state budget funding, especially during these challenging economic times. In the coming weeks, I will share more details and information highlighting the programs supported in this $269 billion budget.

It is very noteworthy that in my 13 years serving as the 108th District Assemblymember, I have never seen more bipartisan support for a NYS budget. Even the Assembly Minority Conference members who voted against the budget noted in their floor remarks that there are many initiatives in the budget that they support. New York is a diverse state in many ways with a variety of needs, and this budget is the best effort to fully represent the vast array of interests.

My focus has always been and will continue to be to listen and represent the interests of the 108th District constituents, and this budget is a testament to the values that are important to our residents.”
