New York State Council on Developmental Disabilities This is the page for the New York State Council on Developmental Disabilities (CDD)

The NYS Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (NYSDDPC) is a federally-funded, New York State Agency operating under the direction of the Governor. The NYSDDPC is one of 56 Councils across the United States and its territories which work to address identified needs of individuals with developmental disabilities by conducting advocacy, systems change, and capacity building efforts that promot

e self-determination, integration, and inclusion. Councils focus on empowering individuals through activities that teach self-advocacy skills and support self-determination. By empowering individuals and their families to both advocate for themselves and seek long-term solutions through systems change, Councils are creating an environment of self-sufficiency, self-determination, inclusion, and acceptance. Councils also play a critical role in quality assurance and as innovators in the development of person-centered systems.

Happy Pride Month from the CDD!

We honor and uplift the LGBTQ+ community, including people with developmental disabilities and their families. Together, we advocate for inclusion, self-advocacy, and equal opportunities for all. Happy Pride!

A few years ago, the CDD funded an LGBTQ training by NADSP for DD support staff to increase capacity to work with individuals with DD who identify as LGBTQ+.

Senior centers play an important role in helping older adults stay connected, engaged, and supported, and that includes older adults with developmental disabilities (DD).

As people with DD are living longer and participating more fully in the community, the need for inclusive aging services continues to grow. To help senior centers better support and welcome people with developmental disabilities, the CDD created a training video offering strategies for senior centers to build more inclusive, accessible, and welcoming community spaces for everyone.

The CDD was honored to join and sponsor the Department of Civil Service’s Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month event today! We covered the expense of an ASL interpreter as part of a larger push to make state events more accessible.

We were excited to be part of this incredible celebration of AAPI culture!
