Today, the flag flies at half-staff in honor of National Police Week and the brave officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.

The City of Albany proudly stands behind our officers and all law enforcement who continue to protect and serve with courage, dedication, and pride every day.

Thank you to the men and women who wear the badge and keep our small town safe.

This week, we join communities across the nation in recognizing National Police Week β€” a time dedicated to honoring the men and women of law enforcement who serve and protect our communities each day.

National Police Week was established in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which it falls as National Police Week. Each year, communities across the country pause to recognize the courage, service, and sacrifice of law enforcement officers, while also remembering those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Our officers proudly serve our community responding to emergencies, assisting residents, protecting lives and property, and working to keep our neighborhoods safe. Their dedication, professionalism, and willingness to serve others often comes with personal sacrifice for both officers and their families.

Residents can show support for law enforcement during National Police Week in many simple but meaningful ways:
πŸ’™ Thank an officer for their service
πŸ’™ Display a blue ribbon or blue light
πŸ’™ Teach children about the importance of public service and community safety
πŸ’™ Keep in your thoughts the officers and families who have made the ultimate sacrifice

Please join us in thanking all current and former law enforcement officers for their continued commitment to serving our community.

πŸš” Albany Police Department – National Prescription Drug Take Back Day πŸ’Š

On April 25th from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the Albany Police Department will be participating in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

Residents are encouraged to bring any unused or expired prescription medications, as well as over-the-counter drugs, to the Police Department for safe and proper disposal. Removing these medications from your home helps prevent misuse, theft, and accidental ingestion.

Chief Gannon will be available during the event to answer questions and provide guidance on safe medication storage and disposal. A limited number of medication locking bags will be available while supplies last.

The Albany Police Department remains committed to protecting the safety and well-being of our community. We appreciate your participation in this important initiative.
