Last week, NYSACHO staff had the opportunity to visit the Ulster County Department of Health, one of our 2026 Climate and Health Mini-Grant awardees, and attend their Climate Emergency Public Health Preparedness Training for Municipal Leaders.

The event featured an excellent agenda with informative presentations from partners at Cornell Cooperative Extension, the American Red Cross, the Ulster County Department of Health, and Ulster County Emergency Services, as well as an engaging tabletop exercise. It was inspiring to see participants actively engaged and eager to bring new ideas and strategies back to their municipalities.

Thank you to the Ulster County Department of Health for hosting such a successful event and for welcoming NYSACHO staff. We look forward to seeing the continued impact of this important work across the county!

Last week, NYSACHO staff attended the Statewide Health Emergency Preparedness Coalition Meeting, where NYSACHO Program Manager Danielle Pellino presented on NYSACHO's Climate and Health Mini-Grant Program, hosted in partnership with NYSDOH. The presentation highlighted innovative local health department projects that advance both emergency preparedness and climate adaptation.

We also enjoyed hearing presentations from Otsego County and Genesee/Orleans Counties showcasing their preparedness efforts and successes.

Thank you to NYSDOH for organizing a great meeting and for highlighting the important work being done by local health departments across New York!

Collaboration across New York State’s public health system continues to make our communities stronger.

Last week, Dr. Gregson Pigott visited the Erie County Department of Health during a trip to the western region, where he met with Gale Burstein, her team, and other western New York public health leaders. Commissioner James V. McDonald also joined local health officials during the visit.

We love seeing public health leaders from across the state come together to share ideas, strengthen partnerships, and advance innovative public health practice for all New Yorkers.
