UPDATE: The location for the Groundbreaking Ceremony tomorrow, Thursday, May 7, 2026, has been changed to the Northwest Library Event Center located at 2507 Dawson Rd, Albany, Georgia and starts 9:00 AM. Hope to see you all there!

Update: All of our locations will open for regular hours of operation, Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

Due to the potential for severe weather conditions, all Dougherty County Public Library locations will be closed on Monday, March 16, 2026.

🏗️ BIG changes are coming to Westtown! 📚

Westtown Library is getting a makeover to prepare for the renovation all library services at the branch will be suspended from February 24th–28th. We'll officially reopen in the Library On Wheels Bookmobile starting March 2nd!

Library On Wheels Hours:
Mon. – Wed.: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Thurs.: 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Friday: Closed
Sat.: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Sunday: Closed

Due to an unforeseen maintenance issue, Westtown is temporarily closed today, Tuesday, 1/27/2026. Westtown will reopen pending repairs.

DELAYED OPENING NOTICE---Dougherty County Public Library branches will reopen to the public on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Regular hours of operation and all scheduled programs will proceed as planned.

Please note that the Southside and Westtown branches will open on Saturday, January 25, as scheduled.

Due to snowfall and current weather conditions, all Dougherty County Public Library locations will be closed Thursday, January 23, 2025. On Saturday, June 15, 2024, and Sunday, June 16, 2024, the City of Albany, with the assistance of Dougherty County, will activate Operation Safe Place to give people a place to cool off during the day.

According to current weather reports, the heat index is projected to exceed 100 degrees over the weekend. Below is a list of library locations available to anyone needing a break from the heat and the times we'll be open. Water will be provided at each site.

Central Branch in Downtown

• Sunday: 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.

The Northwest Library Branch

We think everyone deserves to have a Pen Pal, so join us and embrace the art of snail-mailing hand-written postcards to strangers that are soon-to-be pals!
We're connecting similarly-aged people from Albany, GA to Albany, NY (because it's a fun idea and the awesome folks at the Albany NY Library agreed). We’ll have paper available at all of our branches but feel free to bring your own. Fill it out or drop off your message and we'll do the rest. All ages can participate.
