Citizen Action of New York Fighting for social, racial, economic and environmental justice for all!

At a recent debate, Bill Magnarelli argued that New York needs data centers. But data centers can consume massive amounts of electricity and water, strain our power grid, increase pollution, and drive up costs for working families. Currently, there are more than 30 proposals for data centers in our state.

Mo Brown believes we need policies that put the health and well-being of Central New Yorkers first. That means defending our climate goals.

NY-129 deserves a representative who will protect them, not sell them out.

“New Yorkers should never again be forced to watch the legislative session compressed to a matter of days because executive control of the budget process has left the legislature unable to effectively perform the job it was elected to do.”

New Yorkers deserve a functioning democracy.

The REST Act would give cities and towns the tools they need to keep rents affordable and stop families from being priced out of their communities. Legislators still have time to act, but they need to hear from us.

Happy Pride!

This year, as we celebrate, we’re honoring American dance icon and activist Alvin Ailey.

Ailey, who founded the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, was an innovator of the New York City dance scene, where he nurtured Q***r and Black arts for decades. He used his choreography to combat racism, elevate African American culture, and advocate for inclusivity. His art served as both a celebration of Black resilience and a form of social protest.

Ailey would go on to receive awards from the United Nations, the NAACP, and a Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The state budget is finalized, and once again, Albany failed to address one of the biggest challenges facing New Yorkers: the housing affordability crisis. Instead, Governor Hochul chose to side with corporate interests.

With only days left in the legislative session, lawmakers need to hear from all of us!

Send a letter today and tell your legislators to pass the REST Act before they leave Albany at cit.ac/REST-Act or the link in bio.

“This state budget is a stunning failure of political leadership from Governor Hochul and a betrayal of working families across this state. Over a month late and rammed through so close to the end of session that lawmakers were given virtually no time to meaningfully debate, or legislate, this budget process was designed to silence accountability and protect power — not deliver for New Yorkers.

And the message could not be clearer: in Hochul’s New York, big donors and corporate interests come first as the entire budget process reeks of pay-to-play politics.”

“Donald Trump’s appearance in the Hudson Valley is a sign that Mike Lawler knows the people of NY-17 are fed up and that his grip on this seat is slipping,” said Isaiah Fenichel, Hudson Valley Community Organizer at Citizen Action of New York. “Families across this district are struggling to afford rent, groceries, healthcare, and utility bills while Lawler stands with Trump pushing devastating cuts to essential services so billionaires and corporations can get even richer. They expect working people to sacrifice while they attack our rights, undermine our democracy, and protect the wealthy at every turn. Our communities deserve leaders who will fight for working families, not politicians who abandon their constituents the moment corporate donors and extremists demand it.”
