Coastal Cleanup Day is this Saturday, September 19. Albany’s Cleanup will be at the Albany Bulb (1 Buchanan Street) from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

This year’s theme, Making Space for All Creatures, highlights how every piece of litter removed helps create cleaner, healthier habitats for the birds, fish, mammals, and other wildlife that call the Bay home. It will be an evening focused on building a stronger, safer, and more connected community through a network of neighborhood Block Captains. New Block Captains can sign up for the program and current ones can share their progress and learn from fellow Block Captains.

This meeting is a great opportunity to strengthen community ties, enhance neighborhood safety, and learn how to support one another during emergencies.

Sinister Dexter played to a packed audience at last week’s Concert in the Park!

We are 1 Somos 1 will close out the 2026 Concert in the Park Series tomorrow at Memorial Park, 6-7:30 p.m. The dynamic bilingual band seamlessly blends English and Spanish lyrics within a vibrant tapestry of contemporary Latin genres (salsa, reggaeton, cumbia, Latin pop) and nu-Latin rock. Unity through music is their goal!

Wednesday is expected to be unusually warm in Albany, with afternoon temperatures reaching the low 90s and temperatures remaining warm into the early evening. A National Weather Service Heat Advisory will also be in effect. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring plenty of water, stay hydrated throughout the evening, wear lightweight clothing and sun protection, and take breaks from the heat as needed. Please pay particular attention to children, older adults, and others who may be more sensitive to high temperatures. If you begin to feel dizzy, weak, nauseated, or otherwise unwell, move to a cooler area and seek assistance.

Nearly 100 community members attended our Homeowners & Tenants Resource Fair on August 18 at the Albany Community Center. The free event featured 20 city departments and local agencies and connected residents with valuable local services and resources for homeowners and renters.

This was an opportunity for community members to get their questions answered about planning and building, utilities, mosquito abatement, home repair assistance, safety services, and more. ECHO Housing presented on the City’s Rent Review Ordinance and services available to both landlords and tenants in Albany.

Both residents and agencies were able to share information, connect with each other and enjoy free refreshments throughout the evening.

The 2026 summer Concert in the Park series begins next week on Wednesday, August 12 at Memorial Park, 6-7:30 p.m. This is the first of five shows, with the band SambaDá kicking things off.

For over twenty years, SambaDá has been mixing contemporary sounds with the roots of Brazilian culture. SambaDá musically unites the Americas, drawing from percussion based styles of South and Central America, and blends it with that good old funk and reggae back beat so familiar to crowds of North America.
