Senator Jim Tedisco sponsors NYS Animal Advocacy Day-a bi-partisan event to enable animal supporters to network, share information and lobby their legislators to raise awareness of the importance of preventing animal cruelty. New York State Residents: NYS Animal Advocacy Day: We continue our advocacy as we have had successful AA Days, at the well of the Legislative Office Building in Albany, NY.
We continue to advocate for these bills throughout the year and into the next Legislative session. We will update on a continual basis..This page is a page for animal advocates who live in the state of New York who want to advocate on behalf of our companion pets. By advocating, we mean- writing to your Assembly and Senate member asking them to sponsor the legislative bills that were presented at Animal Advocacy Day and new bills coming up.. We are still working on statewide animal abuse registry database bill to get passed along with other legislative bills-(Bills are listed in Notes section) We are also asking people to contact their District Attorney in the area where they live if there is an animal cruelty case going on there, so that the DA will be encouraged to use and enforce Buster's animal cruelty law. The next annual (7th) Animal Advocacy Day will take place the first week of June 2017 (date to be announced soon) to further advocate-where the Assembly and Senate members, shelters, rescues, law enforcement, DA's, guest speakers, etc. gather together to speak, educate and network and further advocate for the legislative bills. Prior to the speaking program, booths are set up displaying brochures, flyers, info about the various shelter and rescue groups-if you want your group represented there, contact Senator Tedisco's office) These are our goals and thank you so very much for caring about speaking up for our pets..to protect them from abuse...
Please continue to ask your representative in your district to support the bills presented. We will accomplish our goals to strengthen Buster's animal cruelty law and look forward in planning the upcoming NYS Animal Advocacy Day-Please stay on the page for continued updates. Thanks!

Assemblyman Jim Tedisco and Senator Greg Ball teamed up to sponsor the first NYS Animal Advocacy Day on June 1, 2011. The event took place in The Well of the Legislative Office Building (LOB) in Albany New York. This is an annual event and we look forward to next years event-
The purpose - to bring together legislators and animal advocates to strengthen Buster's Law. The day-long event included networking, sharing of advocacy information and a speaking program on Buster's Law from 9:30 am to 12 pm. After 12 pm there was a time to lobby with legislators to talk about the changes we would like to see added to this law. "In 1999, 113,000 New Yorkers signed petitions to get the landmark Buster's Bill passed into law to create the felony category of "aggravated cruelty to animals," punishable by up to two years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Buster's Law was named after an 18-month-old tabby cat that had been doused with kerosene and burned to death by a Schenectady teen. Prior to this bill becoming law, animal cruelty resulted in only misdemeanor penalties, if any charges were imposed at all. This page will remain permanent as we will continue to update the progress of the bills and our lobbying efforts along the way. The Animal Advocacy Day will be an annual event in the month of June at the capitol.Thank you for your advocacy and please share with others to join this page.We are the voice to strengthen the Buster's Animal Cruelty and further protect our companion pets.
