The Second Amendment wasn't written for hunting or sport shooting. It was written to recognize the natural right of self-defense and to ensure that the people always retain the means to protect themselves, their families, and ultimately their liberty.

The Founders believed that a free society depends on an empowered citizenry, not one entirely dependent on the government for protection.

Freedom is safest when the people, not just the state, have the power to defend it.

Yesterday, the House failed to fast-track a clean extension of FISA 702.

This program lets intelligence agencies collect Americans’ communications without warrants through so-called “incidental” collection and backdoor searches. It is one of the most serious ongoing violations of the Fourth Amendment.

Six New York Republicans voted to rubber-stamp this extension without any real reforms:
• Rep. Nick LaLota (NY-01)
• Rep. Andrew Garbarino (NY-02)
• Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11)
• Rep. Elise Stefanik (NY-21)
• Rep. Nicholas Langworthy (NY-23)
• Rep. Claudia Tenney (NY-24)

The libertarian position is clear: No warrant requirement for querying U.S. persons’ data = no reauthorization.

Section 702 authorities are on the brink of lapsing in the coming days. Congress now has a choice:

Pass real reforms that finally protect New Yorkers’ privacy and due process, or let this unconstitutional surveillance regime expire.
