ICYMI! The state’s plans to replace the Livingston Avenue Bridge got a major financial boost Thursday, thanks to $215 million in federal funding Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer encouraged the government to support. The award from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements Program is the largest in the program’s history. “This whopping $215+ million in federal funding will help replace the bridge, improving service and reliability along the Empire Corridor, ensure river traffic flow, and provide a long desired pedestrian link as well,” Schumer said. A new bridge is also seen as an integral part of both cities’ efforts to reconnect with the Hudson River. The project will also give pedestrians and bicyclists safer and better access to get across the Hudson River, connecting to the Albany Skyway as well as a $4.5 million multi-use trail at DeLaets Landing in Rensselaer.
