The UC Berkeley SBS Program provides select junior officers, warrant officers, senior non-commissioned officers and Army Civilians the opportunity to explore leadership and its organization as means to better equip them to operate in complex contemporary security environments. This program is designed to immerse participants in diverse curriculum and unique settings which challenge their critical and creative thinking. The cohort applies Silicon Valley ecosystem characteristics to develop positive long term change and reinforce the Army’s vision of developing agile and adaptive leaders. During this program, a diverse group of facilitators will lead insightful and interactive exercises to explore some of the challenges facing the current and future force. Outreach to the community is a major component of the program, providing opportunities for the class to interact with members of academia, technology, business, and community leaders. Discussions highlight the importance of agility, acceptance of failure, velocity of developing ideas and inclusiveness to maximize the potential of a community. On Wednesday the 2106 Strategic Broadening Seminar cohort at Kansas University were able to visit one of American basketball's most historic locations, Allen Fieldhouse. They received the blue ribbon tour and finished with a viewing of the original 13 rules of basketball... which are treated like the Declaration of Independence there (Nicolas Cage couldn't steal them).

The 2016 US Army Strategic Broadening Intensive Workshop at UC Berkeley included an event at UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business to meet with Haas faculty, Dr. John Danner and Mark Coopersmith, authors of The Other F Word.

Failure is a fundamentally misunderstood and underutilized resource. In their engaging and provocative talk about their book, the authors helped expand their view of failure by offering a process to become a more failure savvy leader: recognizing failure earlier, minimizing its damage, and harnessing lessons learned to improve future outcomes.
