A criminal SUNY campus trespasser, not even a week off his probation, was arrested again on stalking charges at UAlbany. New York State University Police continue to play a critical role in keeping SUNY students safe.

In February, New York State University Police at Albany arrested suspect Nicholas Ross on accusation of repeatedly following a victim across multiple public areas and residential campus grounds. Ross was charged with stalking, criminal trespassing and harassment with a pattern of behavior the victim stated as nonconsensual, fearing for her safety.

Ross had previously been arrested in 2020 by SUNY Cortland Police and charged for burglary and stalking, having entered a student's room and accosted her. He was less than a week off of his probation when UAlbany Police caught him on their campus this year. These two arrests are a powerful example of quick action by University Police to prevent ongoing harm and protect campus communities.

For the last 26 years, Chris DiCintio has served as a Forest Ranger, protecting public and private lands and fighting wildfires.

Chris is currently under medical care after his diagnosis of stage four pancreatic cancer, and medical bills are expensive. We’re asking our community to come together to support Chirs and his family. Please consider donating to Chris’s GoFundMe to help ease the financial burden during this difficult time.

Every donation can make a meaningful difference.

WATCH: earlier this year, our President James McCartney testified at a New York State Joint Legislative Budget Hearing on Higher Education, on behalf of the PBA of New York State.

Jim shared the critical need to centralize the New York State University Police under one statewide system, instead of 29 separate SUNY campus police departments. In the face of obfuscation, threats and intimidation, our members are standing tall to support centralization as an absolute priority for the safety of SUNY campuses and the equitable allocation of limited police resources across New York.

If our priorities show who we are, then investing in SUNY campus safety must be New York's first priority for it students and its belief in higher education.

Last month, Investigator Lilah Bunce of the SUNY New Paltz Police visited third grade students in Joanna Wilcox’s classroom at Lenape Elementary School in the New Paltz Central School District, to celebrate the Read Across America national literacy initiative created by the National Education Association.

Investigator Bunce read "Officer Buckle and Gloria" by Peggy Rathmann. After the story, students asked thoughtful questions and engaged in a lively discussion — a great example of law enforcement building positive connections with the next generation.

Forest Rangers participated in Shallow Water Egress Training (SWET) conducted by the New York State Police Aviation Unit in Albany. The training prepares pilots and Forest Ranger helicopter crew chiefs with the skills needed to survive a helicopter water emergency.

Training like this ensures crews are ready if the unexpected happens during flight.

This Earth Day, we recognize the dedicated work of New York’s Environmental Conservation Police Officers who protect our state’s natural resources every day. 🌎🌲

Serving the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, officers patrol forests, waterways and communities across the state to enforce environmental laws, protect wildlife and ensure future generations can enjoy New York’s natural beauty. From safeguarding habitats to responding to environmental disasters and crimes, their work plays a vital role in preserving our environment.

The PBA of New York State is proud to represent and support their work to protect our communities and our planet.
