๐Ÿญ The state legislature must pass at least a 1-year ban on future data centers, which would include the Kenwood Academy property, before the end of session.

Our community has been loud and clear on this issue, on power and water concerns, on neighborhood impacts, and more.

Letโ€™s get it done.

Suffer the children. Two years ago, this 4 year old and her father wouldโ€™ve been protected under Temporary Protected Status (TPS) given the turmoil in Venezuela.

Instead, DHS ended that program last October. Now, a child has been arrested on her way to pre-K no less, her life upended, and is now heading back to a country sheโ€™s never known.

This is not who we are. Families belong together.

โœ… We got it done: I secured $1 million to begin comprehensive planning for the transformation of Albanyโ€™s Uptown Parking Lot District, the Harriman State Office Campus.

For too long, this sea of parking lots and half-empty state offices has plagued Uptown Albany, but we are changing the game this year.

Thank you to Assemblymember Gabriella A. Romero, Assemblymember John McDonald, countless neighbors and neighborhood associations, and all of our partners who worked to make this possible.

Stay tuned for more to come on this!

๐Ÿ“ธ Yesterday, I introduced a very kind, brave, and humble young man, Kellen McHale, on the Senate floor as we passed a resolution proclaiming May as Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Awareness Month in New York State.

Kellen is one of more than 1,600 New Yorkers who live with CF, a genetic disease that affects the lungs, digestive system, and other vital organs. Thanks to years of innovative research and funding, treatments that were unimaginable just a generation ago are now helping patients pursue their dreams.

Despite the challenges that CF presents, Kellen and the CF community continue to show extraordinary resilience, courage, and hope. Yesterday's resolution illustrates our commitment to continue funding cutting-edge research and treatment development that will change lives.

Thank you to Kellen and his wonderful parents for joining us in session yesterday for the passage of this resolution. Your story and advocacy continue to make a difference.

๐Ÿšจ New York State's final budget for FY2027 has been passed and enacted into law. This budget was almost two months late, but I'm pleased we've secured investments in our Capital Region and in our working families to help them weather the affordability crisis.

From providing utility bill rebates to making it significantly easier to build new apartments and houses, we are making investments that will make a difference for working families here in our Capital Region.

โœ… Although it's not everything we wanted, I'm pleased to see we moved the needle and secured a 2.7% Targeted Inflationary Increase (TII) as Chair of the Senate Disabilities Committee.

We fought for 4%, and next year, I'm optimistic that we'll get there. Our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are among some of our lowest-paid workers in the state, and disability care providers are struggling to pay them living wages and continue services.

This is a full-blown crisis, and one that demands further action. I will continue to fight for a full 4% alongside advocates, families, and New Yorkers living with disabilities, and for real living wages for our DSPs.

๐ŸŒ‡ To help close the City of Albany's budget gap, stabilize its fiscal outlook, and restore public confidence in its financial future, I'm proud to announce the Capital Region Delegation secured more than $40 million in aid for our Capital City this year.

$20 million is recurring Capital City Aid, and $20 million is new aid that must be used to close the City's budget gap. I want to thank Assemblymember Gabriella A. Romero, Assemblymember John McDonald, and Albany Mayor Dr. Dorcey Applyrs for their work in delivering this relief for our residents and taxpayers.

What a joy to join these Bethlehem Central School District Elmsmere Elementary students at the State Capitol!

They stopped by to learn more about our 46th District Veteran Hall of Fame honoree, Captain Bill Frank, and for a historic tour! Thank you for providing some respite as we pass the state budget!
