NYS Jails Justice Network NYS JJN is a grassroots organization that has been building power across the state.

311 is a pipeline for ignoring human suffering!!!

Over 40,000 cries for help from Rikers Island in a single year…that go nowhere. Incarcerated people are told to “call 311” knowing those calls rarely lead to accountability.

Thousands inside are left to endure unsafe conditions with little to no recourse.

Rikers isn’t failing by accident. It’s functioning exactly how it was designed.

We stand with in asking you to contact your lawmakers and ask them to support Bills S8856 and A9617, legislation that would establish County Law Enforcement Civilian Complaint Review Boards across New York State.

These oversight boards are a critical step toward strengthening transparency, accountability, and safety in our county correctional facilities. Independent oversight protects incarcerated people and our communities.

You can find your legislators here:

Find your New York State Senator:

https://www.nysenate.gov/find-my-senator

Find your New York State Assemblymember:

https://nyassembly.gov/mem/search/

Please take a few minutes on March 30 between 10 AM and 1 PM to make your calls and ask your legislators to co-sponsor S8856 / A9617.

We must pass this bill.

Thank you for standing with us in the fight for accountability, safety, and dignity in our county jails.

Hey Kathy Hochul
Time to yet?

It's extremely embarrassing for you to keep him on at this point!!

It's giving "I hate incarcerated people and I want them brutalized or dead".

This is not a nod; it's a full-on, unapologetic salute to Rev. Jesse Jackson, a man who’s walked the revolutionary path that Malcolm X, Angela Davis, and Huey P. Newton carved out.

He never asked for permission to confront injustice; he tore down the walls that tried to keep Black liberation at bay. We are here to honor a fearless legacy that never sugar-coated the truth and never backed down.

Jesse Jackson’s life is a testament to speaking truth to power, fighting for dignity, and carrying the torch of radical Black freedom.

NYS Jails Justice Network is celebrating an unapologetic warrior whose voice and actions have always been on the front lines of the struggle.

Yesterday at the State Capitol, families of incarcerated people, advocates, and community leaders stood together demanding real action — clemency used regularly, not symbolically, and accountability for the hundreds of deaths that have happened inside New York prisons. Speakers shared stories of decades-long sentences, medical neglect, and families growing up without parents while state leadership avoids responsibility. This was the start of a sustained campaign to push for clemency, transparency, and leadership that values human life.

Join us Friday, Feb 12 at 10 AM in the War Room (2nd Floor, outside the Governor’s Office, NYS Capitol) for a press conference on clemency, and accountability.

We demand clemency for:
Rev. Joy Powell
Kim Brown
Han Early
And all others incarcerated unfairly!!!

Clemency exists because the legal system gets things wrong and because punishment without mercy is cruelty.

Hochul also continues to keep Daniel F. Martuscello III in place as Commissioner of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, despite a prison system under his leadership where at least 264 deaths have gone officially “unexplained.”

Impacted families, advocates, faith leaders, and community organizations are coming together to demand action that saves lives.

Show up. Stand with us. Share widely.
