We want to take a moment to recognize one of our own, Mykela Finnigan, for an incredible accomplishment!
Mykela has been a dispatcher with the Alamogordo Communications Center for less than one year, but has dispatched for four years in total. Like all of our telecommunicators, she comes to work every day ready to answer whatever call comes through the door, but recently, she found herself in a situation that many dispatchers hope they’ll be prepared for, but may never actually experience.
On September 22nd, Mykela used her Priority Dispatch training to help a caller through the delivery of a baby, providing instructions and support until help could arrive. Then, just five days later on September 27th, she found herself doing it all over again, assisting with the delivery of a second baby! 🎉
Two baby deliveries in one week is certainly not something you see every day in the dispatch center. More importantly, it shows just how important the training, preparation, and calm presence of our telecommunicators can be when someone needs help the most.
Mykela, we are incredibly proud of you and the way you handled both of these calls. Thank you for being there when our community needs you, and for representing the Alamogordo Communications Center so well. 💛
