Neighbors helping helping neighbors. If you wondered why there was a Springfield Fire Med Unit at Coventry Fire for the last two weeks, Springfield Fire came through and allowed us to use their spare med unit while one of our ambulances needed a new engine under warranty. This was an invaluable resource to make sure we had a second med unit available to our residents and also to our mutual aid fire departments during this period. Thank you to Springfield Fire

Congratulations to Lieutenant McClellan, Fire Medic Owen, Fire Medic Minne, and Deputy Chief Langenek on receiving the Summa Certificate of Achievement Award for their advanced-level paramedic care provided to a resident experiencing cardiac arrest.

Through their teamwork and expertise, their actions resulted in the resident regaining a pulse and, ultimately being discharged from the hospital.

We are proud of their professionalism and commitment to providing the highest level of care to our community.

Congratulations to all four on this well-deserved recognition!

Chief Rockich and Firemedic Harrell participated in the 9/11 memorial stair climb at Infocision Stadium today. They joined many others in climbing 110 flights of stairs in remembrance of the 343 firefighters who lost their lives 25 years ago today!

Thank you to Ohio Edison for coming to talk to our guys about the dangers of working around power lines and sharing your knowledge with is. With the storms that came through lately all of the local fire departments were out checking on down lines. This training will be extremely valuable moving forward with keeping our firefighters and citizens safe.

Also thank you for Barberton Firefighters Local 329, Lakemore Fire, and Norton Fire for sending members to join in the training.

The last two weeks has been busy one for these four new members of the South Summit Water Rescue Team and Summit County Water Rescue Team. Chief Rockich has taken the lead along with dive rescue instructors from Green Fire to instruct these new candidates during the extensive two week class, which involves classroom time, written tests, underwater pool skills, and extensive underwater time at a nearby quarry. Topics included public safety rescue diving, dry suit diving, full face mask diving, and how to conduct an emergency rescue operation. These members are drilled on how to save others and how to save themselves and their dive partners should an underwater equipment malfunction occur.
