Mental Health Counseling and Therapy in Akron:
At Catholic Charities Summit County, we are committed to providing high-quality mental health counseling and therapy services to individuals and families throughout Akron and surrounding communities. We welcome all insurance plans, including Medicaid, and offer a sliding fee scale to make counseling accessible to everyone. Our mission is to continue the work of Jesus Christ by serving individuals and families in Summit County and beyond, regardless of beliefs or circumstances. As part of Catholic Charities Diocese of Cleveland, one of the largest integrated systems of care, we serve over 400,000 people annually through 150 services across 60 locations in Northeast Ohio. While mental health and substance use recovery are at the heart of our local services, we also offer a wide range of community-based support, including disability services for people of all ages. HELP ME GROW - Ohio's parent support program, fostering early prenatal and well-baby care. ADULT DAY SERVICES - Weekly programming and activities for older adults living in Summit County so that they may remain independent, social and in their own homes. COMMUNITY RESPITE - One weekend each month, Camp Christopher opens its doors to provide persons with developmental disabilities 13 years of age and up the opportunity to spend time relaxing and enjoying activities and field trips. SUMFUN - Our SumFun Day Camp for children with developmental disabilities serves those ages 5-21 who qualify for services through their local county board of developmental disabilities. Our programs are designed to meet the needs of diverse individuals and communities, helping everyone—from youth to older adults—thrive and grow. May is National Allergy Awareness Month

Allergies are one of the most common chronic diseases. A chronic disease lasts a long time or occurs often. An allergy occurs when the body’s immune system sees a substance as harmful and overreacts to it.

The substances that cause allergic reactions are allergens. Some types of allergens are
- Drugs (medicine)
- Food
- Insects that sting (bees, wasps, fire ants), bite (mosquitos, ticks), or are household pests (cockroaches and dust mites)
- Latex
- Mold
- Pet (dog or cat urine, saliva, and dander)
- Pollen

The most common allergy symptoms can simply make you uncomfortable. For example, you may have watery eyes, a runny nose, sneezing, a rash or hives. Other more serious symptoms, like trouble breathing and swelling in your mouth or throat, may be a life-threatening reaction called anaphylaxis.

What Are the Treatments for Allergies?
Good allergy treatment is based on your medical history and the severity of your symptoms. It can include three different treatment strategies: avoidance of allergens, medication options and/or immunotherapy (a treatment to train your immune system not to overreact). Be sure to talk to your doctor about any concerns and what treatment is best for you.

Yours in Good Health!
