Governor Mike DeWine and Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel have signed a proclamation declaring September 25, 2026 as "Dolly Parton Day" in Ohio.

Parton had a strong passion for children's literacy. More than 50,000 children in Summit County have benefited from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and the Imagination Library of Ohio.

To celebrate Dolly Parton's life, Lt. Governor Jim Tressel and I signed a proclamation creating Dolly Parton Day, to be observed on September 25, 2026. Dolly spread the values of kindness and generosity around the world, and her legacy will live on through the children who have benefited from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

In Ohio alone, more than one million children from all 88 counties have received a free, high-quality, age-appropriate book in the mail each month since the Imagination Library of Ohio program was established in 2019.

Parents can enroll their children from birth to age five in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio at ohioimaginationlibrary.org

Akron Municipal Court’s Administrative/Presiding Judge David Hamilton is partnering with the Akron Urban League and the Summit Legal Defenders to offer on-site expungements for those who qualify. The event will take place on Friday, November 6, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Former Ohio State Buckeyes Running Back Maurice Clarett will be a guest speaker at this event. Clarett was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year for his outstanding performance during the Buckeyes’ historic 2002 season when they won the BCS National Championship.

Clarett is now a public speaker who openly discusses his dismissal from The Ohio State University, his imprisonment and what inspired him to establish The Red Zone, a behavioral health agency in Youngstown, in 2016. He is deeply dedicated to mental health advocacy, entrepreneurship and community development with a special focus on aiding homeless youth, senior citizens and expectant mothers. Clarett is a native of Youngstown and graduated from Warren G. Harding High School.

Registration is preferred and the deadline to register is October 23, 2026 or until all spots are filled. Walk-ins are welcome the day of the event. The registration form can be found here: https://forms.gle/KtcSzhChT6No7NC59

Twenty-five years ago today, 2,977 individuals lost their lives and thousands were injured.

We will always remember the legacies of those we lost and the bravery of the first responders on September 11, 2001.

One year ago today, we were delighted to host Olympic Gold Medalist Oksana Baiul to help us kick off National Recovery Month at the Akron Art Museum.

"Fox 8 News in the Morning" Anchor Kristi Capel moderated a Q&A session with Oksana where she discussed how she overcame alcoholism. Her story is one of resiliency and triumph.

It was a beautiful, inspirational day.

Judge Jon Oldham presides over Akron Recovery Court and Akron OVI Court and gave a history of the specialized dockets prior to Oksana taking the stage. Both received proclamations from City of Akron, OH Mayor Shammas Malik.
