Welcome to the Akron Fire Department's web page. Akron was founded in 1825 and now covers 62.4 square miles with a
population of 200,000. Once known as the "Rubber Capital of the World", Akron
is now known as a center for polymer research and development. The Akron Fire
Department is full time professional department that operates from 13 fire stations. We also employ a civilian staff that provides us with vehicle and building
maintenance, hydrant maintenance, and administrative support. In 2011, we
responded to a total of 39,175 fire and EMS calls, with 83% of those being EMS
related. We are confident you will find the information on this site to be easily

Mission
The Akron Fire Department exists to protect the lives, property, and environment
within our community by minimizing the impact of fire, medical emergencies, and
hazardous conditions. We will accomplish this mission by providing:
• Fire suppression forces capable of mitigating all fire events
• An Emergency Medical System designed to provide excellent
pre hospital care
• Enforcement of fire codes, investigation of fire cause, and public education
• Special operation teams trained for hazardous material response, technical
rescues, water emergencies, and tactical EMS
