Scalise CPA, CFE was appointed the new Summit County Fiscal Officer on May 12, 2011. She manages the auditor, recorder and treasurer divisions of the fiscal office. Scalise CPA, CFE is responsible for the collecting of real estate taxes on all properties in Summit County. The treasurer’s division mails real estate tax bills semi-annually. There are 78 tax districts with approximately 270,000 tax b

ills mailed each collection. The county treasurer is responsible for investing and safeguarding over $1 billion a year. Kristen is chairperson of the Summit County Investment Board. She is also a member of the Board of Control and the Board of Revision, which hears appeals from taxpayers regarding property values. Prior to her appointment, Kristen served as Chief Deputy Fiscal Officer for 11 years. Utilizing her skills as a CPA and a Certified Fraud Examiner, she has been a part of the fiscal accountability and integrity that have been the hallmarks of the Fiscal Office. Kristen has created internal controls and written policies to ensure the $1 billion annually processed by the Fiscal Office are accurately accounted for to the penny. She is the liaison for our successful internal and external audits each year. She monitors electronic transfers, clearing house transactions, wire transfers and approves all banking investments, tax collections, master financial reports, tax settlements and bank reconciliations. Kristen also oversees the Auditor Division of the Fiscal Office where her staff helps with property appraisals, Homestead Exemption, real estate assessments, Estate Taxes, and mobile home taxes. The Weights and Measures Department received the prestigious Frank P. Gallo Award for excellence in Weights and Measures from the Ohio Weights and Measures Association. The Summit County Fiscal Officer's Records Division is responsible for the safekeeping of vital records pertaining to ownership in real estate. The Tax Maps Department maintains current and accurate maps of land parcels by size, ownership and location. Surveyors, title companies and the public use these maps as a reference resource. In addition to serving as Chief Deputy Fiscal officer, Kristen was employed in the private sector for 10 years as a Certified Public Accountant. Kristen graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. She holds an Ohio Financial Accountability Certificate; she is a Certified Public Accountant (conferred in 1992) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (conferred in 2008). Kristen carries membership in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants; National Association of Certified Fraud Examiners; National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts; County Treasurers Association of Ohio, County Auditors’ Association of Ohio, Ohio Recorders’ Association and Government Finance Officers Association.

We are looking forward being part of this event on Friday! Our team will be there issuing veteran ID cards and sharing information about the other services our office provides.

If you are interested in getting a veteran ID with us, you will need to provide a copy of your DD-214 that states an honorable discharge. ID cards will be issued free of charge during the event.

The Summit County Pro Bono Collaborative is proud to partner with the Summit County Fiscal Office, and Fiscal Officer Kristen Scalise. The Summit County Fiscal Office is made up of the divisions of Auditor, Recorder, and Treasurer. This office is responsible for the issuance of various licenses (including dog licenses), handles real estate tax bills and does fuel quality testing, just to name a few responsibilities. This office also issues veteran ids to our community members with military service. For the fee of $1, veterans can apply to have their DD-214 recorded and a veteran identification card issued as a convenient way to prove military service. For our May 1 Pro Bono Collaborative kickoff, those veteran ids will be provided free of charge.
