Last week, professionals from all over took part in a Headwater Habitat Evaluation Index (HHEI) training with Summit SWCD staff. Participants assess streams based on substrate type, pool depth, and bank width to see how well the stream can be utilized by aquatic creatures for their homes.

Thank you to everyone who attended the training and to our teacher Greg Orr!

Is your yard handling the rain well? If you have frequent flooding, wet spots, or ponding issues a rain garden could be your solution! Rain gardens are small gardens filled with native plants and are designed to catch and divert stormwater runoff from your yard, driveway, roof, etc. In addition to solving your lawn's water issues they also provide excellence habitat and food sources for native animals and insects.

Rain, rain go away, come again another day… β˜”πŸŒ§οΈ We have definitely been getting our share of rain lately!

One simple way to help manage all that stormwater is with a rain barrel. Rain barrels collect runoff from rooftops and store it for later use, helping reduce stormwater runoff, erosion, and pollution entering our streams and rivers.

As a stormwater BMP (Best Management Practice), rain barrels help slow down and capture rain where it falls. While also giving you free water for gardens and landscaping! πŸŒ±πŸ’§

Register for our rain barrel workshop with Tinker's Creek Watershed Partners on June 30th and make your own barrel!
