Sheriff Kandy Fatheree

Sheriff Kandy Fatheree Sheriff Fatheree grew up in Springfield Township, and recalls having wanted to be a "cop" since the age of six.

As a struggling single mother, she sold nearly everything she owned to pay her way through the Police Academy. She started her career with the Lakemore Police Department in 1993, and joined the Sheriff's Office two years later. Over the course of three decades with the Sheriff's Office, she worked in nearly every unit and division, and learned the office inside and out. She rose through the ranks

to reach the level of Captain where she was tasked with managing the office's $44 million budget. As a woman in law enforcement, she faced resistance and dismissal throughout her career, but she believes that this only made her stronger and more driven. In 2008, she attended the FBI's National Academy for Executive Leadership, and it was then that she realized her dream of becoming Sheriff. In 2020, she threw her hat in the ring, and was proudly elected by the people of Summit County. She is the first woman to hold the office of Sheriff in Summit County's history, and only the fourth in Ohio's history. Among her top priorities, she is focused on boosting professionalism and efficiency; increasing diversity, outreach, and communication; and confronting the mental health and addiction crisis in our community. She has been nationally recognized for her innovative and groundbreaking approaches, and has earned the support and bipartisan endorsement of leaders across our county.
