NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

The Springfield Township Board of Zoning Appeals will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 5:30 pm, in Springfield Township Hall, 2459 Canfield Road, Akron, Ohio, 44312 to hear the following request:

(BZA 14-2026/Permit #102655) Gary Sheets, owner of Summit Outfitters LLC, located at 2054 Delaware Avenue (parcel #5106488 and 5106489) requests approval for expansion of a nonconforming use at 2054 Delaware Avenue, owned by Larry Sheets and Richard Sheets. The applicant proposes to continue with the existing fi****ms business at this location. Pursuant to Section 14.05(E)(2) of the Springfield Township Zoning Resolution, expansion or change in a nonconforming use requires approval by the Board of Zoning Appeals.

(BZA 15-2026/Permit #1102684) Bernard Legg, owner of 2175 Delaware Avenue (parcel #5104713) requests three variances from the requirements of Springfield Township Zoning Resolution. The first variance is to allow an accessory structure to be located 7 feet from the side property line where Section 7.01 (G)(5) requires a minimum side yard setback of 10 feet. The second variance is to allow a total of 1120 square feet of accessory structures where Section 7.01(C)(2) limits the total area of accessory structures to 900 square feet. A third variance is to allow the accessory structure to have a height of 15 feet 3 inches where Section 7.01(E)(2) limits an accessory structure to a maximum height equal to the height of the principal structure, which is 15 feet.

(BZA 16-2026/PERMIT #102626) Thomas Yankovich with Ellet Sign Company, representative for Slay Nails Bar & Spa, 2863 South Arlington Road (parcel #5109509) requests a variance to allow a variance of 13 square feet for a wall sign size of 33 square feet where Springfield Township Zoning Resolution Section 13.07(C)(2)(h) limits the wall sign to 20 square feet.

A Public Service Announcement from the Springfield Township Zoning Administrator.

NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNERS & OCCUPANTS:

Although the Township's authority may permit the use of drones for certain legitimate governmental purposes, Springfield Township currently does not use drones for zoning inspections, nuisance investigations, or property enforcement and has never used a drone for these purposes. Accordingly, any statements alleging that Township personnel have used drones to inspect or monitor residential properties are false and have no factual basis.

Due to the severe weather forecasted for today, we regrettably must cancel the Summer 250Fest for today for safety considerations. Fireworks and Petting Zoo have been rescheduled for our annual Fall Festival on October 2, 2026, hope to see everyone then.

Make a plan to spend Saturday afternoon August 22nd at the Lakefront for great Music, Food and family friendly activities including a petting zoo provided by Pure Passions Farm, Balloon twisters from Part of Their World, an appearance and demo by NCRC Hawks Radio Control Club and check out some local antique firetrucks with The Western Reserve Fire Buffs.
