Noticing there was no mention by the Aiken Standard of the Settlement Agreement between our school board and Sean Alford shortly after the news on his leaving the Aiken County Public Schools, we put in a FOIA request for it. Media lawyers and government lawyers know such settlements are public record and the media usually gets very prompt, if not immediate, access to such records. Not this time.

So we requested it and posted our request on-line and linked it to the Austin Rhodes Show FB page. Suddenly, we notice yesterday the Aiken Standard is reporting on it but is still not providing a copy of it for the general public.

We are. You can download and read the entire Settlement Agreement and his original Employment Contract at our link below.

OUR COMMUNITY IS BEING TORN APART. PLEASE STOP THE GOSSIP!

Has Sean Alford been falsely maligned, or has he broken the law?

We won’t know what led up to his resignation until the Aiken County Public School Board takes a VOTE to request the SC Attorney General and SLED come in and conduct an INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION of all the facts behind Superintendent Sean Alford’s sudden resignation. They need to vote!

Meanwhile, “[u]nder no circumstances shall a court approve sealing a settlement agreement which involves a public body or institution.” Rule 41.1(c), SC Rules of Civil Procedure

“…we do not believe the fact that a settlement agreement contains a confidentiality provision gives authority to the District to ignore the provisions of FOIA.” Letter to Chair Beaufort County Board of Education, Beaufort, South Carolina, November 7, 2007, Attorney General Henry McMaster

As the media are apparently not going to publish it We The People Aiken just submitted a lawful Public Records request (FOIA) of the Aiken Public Schools for a copy of the school board's Settlement Agreement with Superintendent Seth Alford. Along with our request we submitted a 2007 Attorney General's opinion by then Attorney General, now Governor, Henry McMaster, demonstrating the public's right to have a copy of this Agreement. (They are both found on our link below.)

We will post on this site and boost on FB the minute the district provides it to us. Meanwhile, Like and Share this post across the county.

When asked in a February public meeting about student discipline Superintendent Alford said, "We're not here to punish anybody". Meanwhile, they want millions of dollars of this $90 million bond proposal to spend on safety/security. But with this attitude toward proper punishment of class-disrupting student conduct, will he really use this money for safety/security? They clearly didn't use the $100 million portion of the $800 million bond targeted for safety/security in Broward County, FL and look at the tragedy it caused there.

Is safety/security being used as a fear factor to get supportive votes? We're not buying it. Texas schools have started a low cost Guardian Plan. We should look into that. Vote NO this Tuesday!

Broward County student journalist Kenneth Preston published the findings of an in-depth investigation on Thursday that uncovered damning evidence proving Broward County school officials slacked on school security in the years leading up to the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb....

WHAT OVERCROWDING?

Has any overcrowding been created by poor management, bad re-zoning and busing policies and the reduction in the use of portables? This should be looked into as it certainly isn't because of the rapidly increasing square footage the district has per 1,000 students. Challenges at Midland Valley High School could be met with the use of portables and the "8% bonding" program to fund needed additions.
