2026-09-11 The President of the United States has issued a proclamation declaring Friday, September 11, 2026, as Patriot Day, and calling upon officials, interested parties, and individuals to display the flag of the United States at half-staff in honor of the individuals who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. Accordingly, the Governor directs that the flags atop the State Capitol be lowered to half-staff on September 11, 2026, to join in the observance of Patriot Day. The Governor requests that the flags over state buildings and buildings of the political subdivisions of this State similarly be flown at half-staff for this purpose.

Edisto Avenue Road Closure – Water Line Repair September 9

On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, beginning at 9:00 a.m., the City of Aiken Utilities Department will close Edisto Avenue between Cedar Lane and Victoria Drive to complete repairs to a water line.

Residents within the affected area will continue to have access to and from their homes; however, no through traffic will be permitted while the repair is underway.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and use an alternate route until the roadway is reopened.

The City of Aiken appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation while this necessary repair is completed.

All of the City of Aiken offices will be closed on Monday, September 7 for the Labor Day holiday.
Normal business hours will resume on Tuesday, September 8.
Trash and recycling collection will be delayed by one day for the week.

2026-09-04 The Governor orders that the flags atop the State Capitol be lowered to half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Friday, September 4, 2026, in tribute to Officer Christopher Michael DeLong, Jr. of the Columbia Police Department and in honor of his selfless service and supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. The City of Aiken Engineering & Utilities Department reports that repair work has been successfully completed. Price Avenue is now fully open to traffic. The City extends its sincere appreciation to the dedicated Engineering & Utilities staff, whose hard work and perseverance in the scorching heat made this repair quickly as possible.

3:30 PM, Tuesday, September 1 UPDATE:
The City of Aiken Engineering & Utilities Department estimates that Price Avenue will remain closed for 18 to 24 hours to complete fire hydrant repairs. Work is expected to be finished by mid-day Wednesday. Access to Price Avenue (between Colony Parkway and Two Notch Road SE) and Carolina Bay remains unavailable until repairs are complete.

2:30 PM, Tuesday, September 1
The City of Aiken Engineering & Utilities Department reports a temporary road closure due to water hydrant repair work. Access to Price Avenue from Colony Parkway to Two Notch Road SE will be unavailable for an undetermined amount of time. Access to Carolina Bay will also be unavailable during the repair period. City of Aiken to Hold Drop-In Information Session on Downtown Traffic and Pedestrian Updates

Aiken, SC – The City of Aiken will host a drop-in information session about the upcoming traffic, parking, and pedestrian changes that will occur because of construction related to Oliver Hospitality’s renovation and construction project at the site of the former Hotel Aiken and adjacent parcels in downtown Aiken.

The drop-in session will be from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. in the first floor lobby of the Frederick B. Cavanaugh, Jr. Municipal Building, 111 Chesterfield Street, South on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
