We’ve made it to the final stop in our Park Feature series!

Park feature 1️⃣9️⃣ of 1️⃣9️⃣: Aiken County Recreation Center - 917 Jefferson Davis Hwy

This six-acre community recreation area has a special history. Originally developed by Gregg-Graniteville Mill for its African American employees and their families, the property was later transferred to Aiken County and became the Aiken County Recreation Center.

Following a major renovation that began in August 2025, the center now offers updated spaces and amenities while preserving longtime favorites.

✨ Park features include:
* New outdoor basketball courts
* Swimming pool and bathhouse
* Playground areas
* Walking trail/track
* Picnic shelter with grill
* Multipurpose community rooms with kitchen
* Leashed dogs welcome
* Improved parking and redesigned drop-off area

The renovation was funded through Aiken County’s Capital Project Sales Tax and was designed to modernize the facility while keeping the amenities the community already loves.

The recreation center also offers community programming, seasonal activities such as our annual Joe Jackson School Supply Giveaway, Spooktacular and Christmas Assistance Giveaway, as well as a supervised summer day camp featuring games, crafts, and swimming.

Join us Friday, October 2nd at 10 a.m. for the official ribbon cutting celebrating the new building!

🌳 Exciting Things Are Happening Across Aiken County Parks!

Aiken County Parks & Recreation is working to expand programs, improve amenities, and enhance the overall park experience throughout our community. Here’s a look at what’s underway:

💻 Online Reservations: CivicRec software is coming soon, making it easier to register for programs and reserve shelters, fields, and other facilities online - including Aiken County Recreation Center.

🛡️ Park Safety: An agreement with Powell Security is in development to provide additional park monitoring and help enforce safety measures, beginning at Langley Pond Park before hopefully expanding to the entire park system.

☀️ Roy Warner Park: Plans include a shaded bench and seating area near the playground for parents, caregivers, and visitors.

🎣🐕 Boyd Pond Park: Fish stocking efforts are moving forward, along with plans for a new dog park.

🛹🥎 Harrison-Caver Park: New recreational opportunities are growing, including a skate event, adult kickball, and adult softball.

We’re excited about the progress taking place across our park system and look forward to sharing more details as each project and program moves forward. Stay tuned!

🛶 Cleanup Ahead for the Horse Creek Water Trail! 🌿

Cleanup of Hurricane Helene and other storm damage along the Horse Creek Water Trail has started and is expected to be completed in the coming months. This work will help address storm debris along the 9.5-mile kayak trail stretching from Graniteville, through Langley Pond Park, finishing at Harrison-Caver Park.

The primary focus right now is the lower section of the trail from Langley Pond to Harrison-Caver with the upper section to be completed as soon as possible.

We look forward to restoring this scenic route for future paddling adventures! Stay tuned for progress updates and information about trail access as cleanup moves forward.
