Did You Know?

The average U.S. resident throws away 81 pounds of clothing every year.

Unfortunately:
• Only about 15% of clothing is donated or recycled.
• The remaining 85% ends up in landfills.
• That's an estimated 26 billion pounds of textiles—or roughly 310,000 truckloads—discarded annually.

By donating unwanted clothing, shoes, textiles, books, and other reusable items instead of throwing them away, residents help conserve valuable resources, reduce landfill waste, and support a more sustainable community.

Thanks to your participation, the Town's textile collection program has diverted more than 35,000 pounds of reusable items from disposal, including:

👕 21,237 lbs of clothing
📦 13,160 lbs of miscellaneous reusable items
📚 1,451 lbs of books

Thank you to our community for making a difference. Your commitment to reuse and recycling helps protect the environment, reduce waste, and keep valuable materials in use for years to come. Every donation matters, and together you're making a measurable impact. 🌎♻️💚

Great coverage by Chris Pisano and Western Mass News highlighting the incredible progress being made at Agawam High School. Thanks to the outstanding work of Fontaine Bros and the entire project team, the project remains on schedule and on budget. We are so thankful for the continued support of the Massachusetts School Building Authority.

Big things are happening at Agawam High School! Western Mass News recently got a behind-the-scenes look at the new school and the incredible progress our team is making on site.

Senior Superintendent Mike Sarnelli spoke with the station about the planning, coordination, and teamwork it takes to keep a $230 million project moving forward. The story highlights just how much has been accomplished over the past year, from the massive two-story cafeteria and auditorium to the geothermal well system designed to eliminate fossil fuel usage.

With more than 100 workers on site each day, the project remains on time and on budget as we work toward welcoming the Town Of Agawam's students into Phase 1 of the new facility in January 2027.
