Students in the Lenawee - Moriyama, Japan Middle School Exchange Program were welcomed at City Hall in Moriyama, Japan by the Mayor and Superintendent this week. Students introduced themselves and reunited with their host families, the students they hosted here in Lenawee last October. The LISD offers an annual exchange for Lenawee’s middle school students to host Japanese students and visit Japan. The exchanges with Moriyama (in Shiga prefecture) have a long history and a strong list of Lenawee students and teachers who have been positively affected by opening their minds and hearts to new experiences. The case has been submitted to the Lenawee County Prosecutor’s Office for charging consideration.

There is no ongoing threat to the public related to this case.

NO CURBSIDE BULK TRASH COLLECTION THIS YEAR:

Recently there have been some social media posts regarding the city-wide bulk trash pickup. Curbside pick up for bulk trash is completed on a biennial basis meaning that it is picked up every other year. This year the city will not be picking up bulk trash at the curb. If you see any dates online for pickup, these are not accurate. Curbside pickup will be scheduled in 2027.

If you have bulk trash that you would like to dispose of, you can either purchase a tag for $10 at City Hall for Steven’s to collect it or it can be taken to the compost site off of Oakwood Ave. The compost site is open Tuesdays, 12:00-7:00 and Saturday, 8:00-2:00.

For questions pertaining to bulk trash collection, please call 517-264-4890.
