Busy day for The Bomberos so far today. B-Shift personnel are on duty today staffing the firehouse with 5 personnel. Multiple box alarms and gas leaks rang out to start off the morning with a few medical calls sprinkled in for the wagon and truck while the ambulance took in a couple medical calls as well.
Just before noon, Truck 34 (with 3) was dispatched to 5000 Rhode Island Avenue for a report of a building fire. While units were enroute, communications advised that there were now reports of a car on fire in the parking garage attached to the building. First arriving units confirmed there to be a car on fire with heavy smoke conditions on multiple floors of the garage. Truck 34 operated as the search company and was later tasked with the ventilation group. Crews operated on scene for a couple hours before clearing right when the storms hit and flash flooding in the Hyattsville area occurred.
Once the storms rolled in, the 4th Battalion and surrounding areas were getting multiple calls for vehicles stuck in water, flooding conditions in homes, vehicle accidents, building fires, medical calls and many other incident types. The crews from 34 were up and down the street during this time responding to all call types to help the citizens in need.
