Happy Father's Day to fathers everywhere! To birth fathers, stepfathers, adoptive and foster fathers, grandfathers, and mentors of children that are filling the role of absent dads, it's our day to celebrate the care you take of your children.
And, also a big shout-out to dual-role moms, who are taking up the challenge and the joy of raising children, too.

Brittany Sandquist serves as the City of Adel's Deputy City Administrator and Finance Director. She and her team of three additional employees at City Hall gather and account for the resources for all of the departments of the City as well as the water, sewer, and storm water enterprises.
Her dual roles not only support all of the functions of the City but require her to be on the planning team for future projects and development. While her job is challenging, she is passionate about serving the citizens of Adel and her "can-do" attitude is infectious! It was a pleasure to host her at our meeting yesterday.

Dawn Carlson founded Rhythms of Grace as a retirement project that has become a labor of love. Dawn and her horses and many volunteers are trained to provide equine-assisted services.
"Rhythms of Grace is a volunteer-powered nonprofit partnering with licensed therapists and specially trained horses to bring hope, healing, and belonging to children and adults with disabilities and special needs." has become their mission.

Jill Parker started tennis youth clinics through Adel Parks & Rec in 2019. Since then, participation in tennis has grown from 13 to 90 kids in the recent summer and over 100 participants in the men's and women's leagues. The Adel Tennis Club provides opportunities for all skill levels and ages and has fielded a competitive team on the high school level that competes for Waukee. Expanding the sport in Adel would mean building more than the two recreation courts at Kinnick Feller Park, which will be resurfaced this year, partially funded through a grant from the Dallas County Foundation. A partnership with the City and the ADM School District is being explored. Jill noted that community support will be important to the effort.

This Memorial Day, we remember and honor the heroes who gave everything for our freedom.
Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention is one of Rotary's seven areas of focus. Rotarians train leaders to mediate conflict, support peace-building in devastated regions, and assist refugees.
No one wants peace more than the men and women that serve in the United States Armed Forces.

It was a fine day for the 2026 ADM Graduation Ceremony! Fellow Rotarian and Superintendent of Schools Greg Dufoe kicked off the afternoon with a welcome and the introduction of the first senior speaker. Adel Rotary supports programs at ADM Schools that foster literacy, leadership, and community involvement.
Adel Rotarians had sons or a grandson graduate today. Congratulations to Trey, Reed and Christian!

It wasn't easy catching up with this busy ADM HS junior but we didn't want to miss honoring Shadd Livingston before this school year concluded! Shadd was named the ADM Scholarship Foundation Student of the Month for March for Boys Golf, sponsored by the Adel Rotary Club. The ADM Golf Team missed a trip to State by one stroke but have high hopes to advance next year due to a strong showing by several younger classmates.

Wednesday afternoon found Adel Rotary Club President Rylan Vos hosting the ADM 67th Honor Awards Ceremony, after the Club provided a lunch of pizza for graduating seniors. What a talented class of students was evident as many students received scholarships and awards!
Congratulations, Seniors!

Thanks to Jackson Harper-Griffith, Community Outreach Coordinator for the Iowa Donor Network, we now know that last year there were 124 donations of organs or tissue to people waiting for life-saving procedures. There are many kinds of donations but donation is very rare because only 3 people out of about 1,000 people die in a condition to be able to donate.
Advances in technology and processes have improved the durability of donations but there are still 600 Iowans waiting for kidneys alone.
Donors are celebrated every year for their thoughtfulness. Rotarians are grateful for all of the life-saving and life-altering medical procedures that mean so much to the recipients.
