Lizzie's story...
"My husband and I took our two newly adopted kids, aged 11 and 4, to Estes Park Colorado. Two days in I became critically ill. I was life-flighted to Denver due to sepsis from strep pneumonia. I ended up on full life support for 5 weeks (ECMO, vent, kidney dialysis, heart failure meds, feeding tube) and separated from my newly adopted kids. I had less than a 10% chance of survival, but after a few weeks, most life support was removed, and I regained some strength. I wanted to return home so badly to seek medical care at home and be with my kids. I wasn't stable enough to make the 15 hour drive or take a commercial flight. Insurance wouldn't cover a medical transport home, and we couldn't afford the $65k quote we received for it. A friend told us about Angel Flight, so we reached out to see if it was an option for us even though our story differed from their typical flight missions. We were so overjoyed to be accepted and granted a flight home on my 40th birthday! After 6 weeks in Colorado, away from my home and family in Houston, TX, I was reunited with them thanks to Angel Flight South Central. This was such an amazing blessing and we couldn't be more grateful"
Thank you to all who made Lizzie's mission possible, including volunteer pilot Matt Seymour. It definitely takes a village.
