On this day in history, August 21, 1974, McNairy County Sheriff Buford Pusser signed a contract to portray himself in the second Walking Tall movie.

Later that evening, he attended the McNairy County Fair. Tragically, that night, his life came to a sudden end when he was killed in a car crash while driving his 1974 Corvette.

Today, that very Corvette is preserved here at our museum, giving visitors a chance to see a remarkable piece of the story of one of Tennessee’s most famous lawmen.

Come visit and see the Corvette that became part of Buford Pusser’s legacy—and remember the man behind the legend.
