About Lil

a Pifer, Editor/Publisher:

I am Jewish by conversion, but I grew up German Lutheran in rural Ohio in the 1950's and that is still a part of my cultural heritage. I believe that Jews and Christians worship the same Eternal God. It's just that Judaism better fits my beliefs about God and the universe. I love science and I have never seen any real conflict between science and religion. Evolution is science and Intelligent Design is philosophy. If one looks at it this way there is really nothing to argue about. But I really am a serious monotheist. It really "bugs" me when purportedly secular people make references, even in jest, to "the gods of this and the gods of that." I take the Judeo-Christian Biblical First Commandment seriously and that is axiomatic in my philosphical view. When I converted to Judaism, I took the Hebrew name Ora Lilah. This translates loosely to "a light in the night" and stands for this personal concept: I want to use my writing, counseling and social service skills to enlighten and help lead people out of dark places. When a major party of the United States becomes dominated by people who hold radical anti-American ideas, it ceases to be “the loyal opposition” that is so important to the functioning of our democracy. Instead it becomes a threat and political violence ensues. Never has this been more obvious than it has in the last two years. We are now up to three attempts to assassinate President Trump and many more acts of violence against our public officials. Even in the late 1960s-early1970s when our country was seriously divided over the Vietnam War, it wasn’t this bad. We are now inching closer to a pre-Civil War political climate. Why? Because civil debate has been replaced by inflammatory rhetoric. Because, as it has been throughout human history, there are some people who become so passionate about their own beliefs and the ideas of people that they think validate them that they are willing to resort to violence. They delude themselves into thinking that their violent actions, up to and including murder, are going to change the world for the better. Instead they end up just causing tragedy for their victims and throwing away their own lives either literally or figuratively. The rest of us can’t live in fear, but we can resolve to weigh our words carefully.

ARE FASCISM and COMMUNISM REALLY OPPOSITES?
Fascism is defined as a far-right political system on the traditional left-to-right description of the political spectrum. However, as we have previously pointed out, this can sometimes be misleading when it comes to describing political movements that began in the 20th Century. The description of communism as a far-left ideology is accurate but concluding that it is therefore the antithesis of fascism is not.
While it is true that in World War II the Communist military of the Soviet Union helped defeat the N***s (fascists), it must be noted that they were motivated not by the goal of ridding the world of an evil ideology, but by defending their own country from invasion (fair enough) and gaining control of other Eastern European countries (their ultimate goal). After the war ended and the N***s were defeated they took over most of the countries in that area—Poland, Ukraine, the Baltic and the Balkan states as well as the eastern half of Germany.
Fascism and Communism both limit personal freedom, putting the collective above the individual. Both inflict ruthless punishment on dissidents. Both seek to create an ideal society and force their plans for it on the rest of the world. Therefore, they are not opposites, but rather two different versions of the same ideology. Don’t be fooled by those who tout Communism as an alternative to fascism. Their argument just doesn’t hold up to scrutiny.

"Dancing on the grave" of someone you disagreed with is totally inappropriate and insensitive.

Sometimes there is really nothing we can say, and silence speaks louder than words. Today we remember a great tragedy from 24 years ago when terrorists attacked the World Trade Center. We also are still trying to make sense of a tragedy that occurred yesterday when a champion of freedom and American ideals was brutally murdered by an unknown assailant.

Talk about an insurrection! Remember how the left characterized the happenings of January 6, 2021 as an “insurrection”? They still would have the American people believe that a bunch of hotheads and professional agitators storming the Capitol Building posed the biggest threat to the rule of law that our nation has ever experienced. Now they are calling the events that are unfolding in Los Angeles peaceful protests—just people exercising their First Amendment right to free speech. We can all see from live coverage that there is a lot more than “speech” going on. There is arson. There is rock and bottle throwing. There is obscene graffiti being spray painted on buildings. There are ICE agents being threatened and assaulted. This is what a real insurrection looks like. President Trump should be applauded for federalizing the California National Guard when Governor Newsome failed to call them out to protect his state’s largest city.
