Students in Computer Science (5th period) had an amazing opportunity to listen to and speak with a tech specialist from Robolink, a company that makes robotics kits for students to learn about the wonders of engineering, coding, and STEM. During the video conference, they observed a live training session, as Ms. Hailey (from Robolink) helped Mrs. Stark troubleshoot some of the error codes that were showing on the drones. In addition, they had a Q&A session at the end to learn about how Ms. Hailey started in the field and why she enjoys it. Today’s experience provided these 6th grade students with insight on the importance of properly flying a drone, gave them the confidence that they can learn to repair the drone, and excited them about a possible career in the future.

Timberwolves, we like seeing you in the building. Your teachers notice when you’re here, your friends notice when you’re here, and yes, apparently the staff will dance about it too.

September is Attendance Awareness Month, so pick a goal you can actually stick to and see if you can reduce your absences this month. We gotta start somewhere. 🐺

Sleeping in late tomorrow?
That’s fine. Just don’t forget that it’s a Remote Learning Day as well. Make sure to log in and complete any digital assignments and any actual worksheets that went home today.

Sometimes the best ideas for professional learning come directly from the people doing the work.

This year, we added a new professional learning community at Crossroads because we recognized a need for more intentional opportunities for this group of teachers to learn together. One teacher brought forward the idea. Our administrative team listened, created the space for it to happen, and our teachers took it from there. What happened next exceeded what we imagined.

Teachers shared their strengths. They were open about areas where they wanted to grow. They discovered expertise within their own department that they may not have known was there. Most importantly, they left knowing they have colleagues they can turn to when they want to strengthen their own practice.

The feedback from our teachers was nothing short of amazing. What started as an idea for additional support became an opportunity to build relationships, confidence, and collective professional expertise.

This is the Coach ’Em Up spirit at Crossroads. We believe some of our greatest resources are the people already in the building. When we create opportunities for teachers to learn from one another, we strengthen our collective ability to support the students we serve.

That’s how we continue working to be the best at getting better. Know a teacher or school leader who believes in the power of learning from the people around them? Share this week’s Teaching & Learning Thursday with them.
